Editor's Letter

The days have got longer, there is a sweetness in the air and the best of the year is still to come. Spring into summer with this new issue of tasteAnatolia.

To help you plan future holidays or maybe simply just dream of the happy warm days ahead, our travel features explore the sunny welcoming Turkish Riviera and tempt you with an introduction to the joys of taking a cruise on a gulet along the blue waters of the coast of Turkey. Our writers also take a look at versatile staple ingredients – magnificent artichokes and essential olive oil. Andrew Finkel evokes the pleasures of sipping a glass of raki – for me the magic has always started when you add water and the liquid in the glass clouds up, turns from clear amber-gold to opaque bright yellow and releases that wonderful aniseed aroma. The raki ritual would not be complete without good conversation and a few plates of mezes – you’ll have to provide the conversation but we give you a selection of favourite recipes.

One of the topics visitors to Turkey who succumb to the charms of the country might well discuss over a glass or two of raki is buying a Turkish holiday home. We introduce the subject with the first of our property features.

Much of Art Director Emel Yuksel’s time is spent painstakingly commissioning and selecting beautiful photographs for our magazine (and also, on occasion, taking them: she is a pretty good snapper herself as you can see on the cover). This month I enjoyed Emel’s choice of Rebecca Erol’s witty picture on page 53 – it encapsulates the whole subject of buying property in Turkey to perfection. Rebecca contributes regularly to tasteAnatolia and is a talented young photographer whose work is fast catching the eyes of experts. One of her photographs has just been the subject of a detailed expert critique by Digital SLR Photography Magazine – well done Rebecca.

Enjoy your magazine. Please tell us what you think about our features and what else you’d like to read about. We thank you for your support. Continue keeping in touch with us at www.tasteAnatolia.com
